7 Sons & 7 Churches
God by-passed the elder 7 towering sons of Jesse, and chose his 8th son, David to be anointed His king, from the tribe of Judah (1 Samuel 16:10-13)
Does the Old Testament have symbolic meaning for us living today?
You know what I mean – everything literally happened in the O.T. (Though some would like to think it myth or symbolism).
God’s word is real, and these things that happened are real things, yet God said we are to use them as “examples” and/or “ensamples”:
“Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples [types]: and they are written for our admonition [warning], upon whom the ends of the world are come” (1 Corinthians 10:11)
Of course, we are to “flee from idolatry” as we learn by reading the lessons in the O.T. (v.14) – yet, God has placed a deeper meaning within these text, that we may read and see similar “types” revealing God’s plan
We go to the Greek for “ensamples” which means “typos”/”types.
In Strong’s G5179: “print, blow or impression…figure or image.”
This same word is used in Hebrew 8:5 as “pattern”:
“Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith He, that thou make all things according to the pattern showed to thee in the mount”
We recognize that a “pattern” in the Old Testament is a “type” – whereas the fulfillment of a “type” in the New Testament is its “antitype.”
For example, the bleeding lamb thrown upon the altar of sacrifice (for forgiveness of sins) is a “type” of Christ, Who sacrificed Himself upon the cross, as that “Antitype” fulfillment of the sacrificial lamb on Passover Day.
Jesus fulfilled that lamb prefigured in Exodus 12:3,6,7.
A “lamb…without blemish, a male of the 1st year” was taken and slain for the 1st Passover instituted.
After killing the lamb, the Israelites were to mark “the two side posts and the upper door post of the houses” in order to protect all those that huddled for fear in the house. They knew that every specification must be met, or “the angel of death” would visit that house, as he did those who ignored God’s instructions (Ex.12:12-14) 1⃣
The bloody sacrificed lamb, which was used to mark “the two side posts and the upper door post of the houses” is a “type,” or “pattern” for the “antitype” fulfillment of those living during this fearful time of judgment, when “the angel of death” passes over us.
At that time, we are to have confessed every sin, whereby “the door post” of our hearts have been “marked” by our Sacrificed Lamb, Jesus’ Christ. There is no other fulfillment of this Lamb, by which we may be spared, when “the angel of death” passes over us.
This scene must be re-enacted in our individual lives, where the blood of God’s Lamb, Jesus Christ, is applied to our heart. Trust God fully to take away every known sin that we have kept hidden – we must acknowledge those sins and be willing to relinquish them over to Jesus, for Him to have included them at the cross, where “by Whose stripes, we are healed” (1Peter 2:24; Isa.53:5-6)
Jesus Christ is our Saviour from this eternal death.
None of us asked to be born,
so God has given us a choice – “life” or “death.”
It is our choice not to live by God’s laws which give us eternal “life.”
We have the option to live out our lives here on Earth by our own rules,
but this results in “death” –
“why will ye die…?” 2⃣
Why not “choose life”?
Well God says, that since we didn’t choose to be born, that IS our option not to exist. We can go back from where we came…the “dust” from whence we arose…
” I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19)
1⃣ Exodus 12:12-14
“For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night…I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you…And this day shall be unto you for a memorial…” to be acted out in each of our lives.
2⃣ Ezekiel 18:31-32
“Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dies, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye” (read Ezekiel 18 & 33)
